Tell us about the Scions. Who are they and what do they want? Why can't they just leave us alone? What did we ever do to them?
The word "scion" means descendant or child. The Scions in BZII are descendants (in a way) of an ancient race that inhabited the solar system eons ago, who's civilization was far more advanced than present day human society. The Scions want to "regain their true place in the universe", according to the BZII script. If I said anymore I'd have to….well, you know.
We've started seeing some of the Scion units and Willie and Carey have talked about their unique look. Functionally, how are they different from the ISDF? Is there a 1 for 1 'mirror' relationship between their units and the ISDF units?
The Scion units function a lot differently than the ISDF. Both sides have a scout, a tank, etc, but the way the vehicles on each side drive, fight, and maneuver are distinctly different. For example, you would find yourself using different battle tactics if you were in a Scion Scout vs an ISDF Scout. Scion units can morph, which sets them even farther apart from the ISDF. Also, each side has special unique units with a function the other side does not.
Without giving away too much (because we know you won't), is there a particular overall kind of thinking/strategy that you believe people will employ when playing the Scions? Do they have a 'personality'(stealthy, speedy, defensive, etc.?)
The Scions are more about speed, stealth, and cunning, and the functions of some of their special units reflect this.
We understand that you're in charge of most of the Scion missions. How easy do feel it is to predict how other players will play the Scions?
It's very hard to predict how people are going to play something. The designers have a certain vision of how each of the sides should be played, and what tactics each side is good/bad at etc, and we try to get it to come out as close to that vision as possible.
In most of your missions, is there just one way to win, or are there several different possibilities?
This depends a lot on the mission. The usual case is that there is one "way to win" or one main objective, but several different possible strategies you can use to achieve that goal. Some missions do call for more than one win scenario.
Will the Scion missions (like BZI's Soviet missions) be tougher than the ISDF missions?
Since the Scion campaign doesn't start until well into the ISDF campaign the Scion missions will generally be tougher, or at least on par with the "parallel" ISDF missions that occur after the campaign split. It is not our intention to make the Scion campaign harder.
Finally, is there a favorite Scion saying or proverb you'd like to share with the group?
"Eat your vegetables, and don't run with scissors!"
