Uncle Jack, where do screenshots come from?

So what do you look for in a screenshot?

Mostly combat and explosions, although sometimes we'll offer a shot that just shows a cool view or that suggests some kind of narrative, like the one from two weeks ago of the two Jackillers closing in on a hapless ISDF pilot. For magazines, sometimes we're asked to show a particular world or unit that goes with a theme being discussed in an article.

Do you set stuff up, or are these just random, lucky shots?

Both. We do try to set stuff up - as much as possible, although there is certainly a big luck factor. Sometimes it's frustrating because you'll miss something that might have been good (Battlezone II can move pretty fast, so often you have to be quick on the keys to catch a great moment.) We generally try to set up a scenario that has a good balance of units from both sides and then run it and see what happens. And we have been lucky. This week's shot, for instance, with the crossfire from the two ISDF walkers - no way I could have planned that, but it looks pretty sweet.

Do you have a favorite shot?

There's a nice one on Rend of an ISDF bomber soaring over a couple of walkers--no action, but the walkers and the environment just look great in that shot. (We took it for the European press so you folks reading from the states probably haven't seen it)

Did you know that the requests from the scores of great fan sites out there that e-mail the Watch asking for a couple of shots of their favorite game are regularly refused? What could be wrong with slipping out a couple to each site?

Well, hey, I'd love to do it, but I've seen how many fan sites are out there and if I even took one exclusive shot for each site, I'd never get my missions done (and that would make George somewhat unhappy.) Besides, I'm told we've already got a pretty good-sized backlog of requests from the press. So like I say, I'd love to be able to do it, but I have to agree with the Watchman that it's just not realistic.

Finally, is there anything that's being held back - stuff we haven't seen yet?

I think that in general I am allowed to say 'yes', although I can't comment on specifics. They generally don't tell me about all that stuff, though. I just take the shots.
